Renderings of the overall shape of the building

The rendering of my building only shows the concrete materials used. I do intend to have about a quarter of its outside materials to be made of glass therefore opening up the building more (just need to learn more about the software).

two strong factors has led to this symetry of the building. Both of them coming from my site analysis, the first being the views opening up on each side of the story bridge and the second factor was about the circulation flow of the people to the site also coming from both side and therefore how should the building adress its entrance to its people.

The idea in here is that instead of offering one main entrance to the foyer of the building, it will have two, one on each side. the entrance which is located at the bottom of the building is for people wishing to access the bar and restaurant located on the second floor without having to enter into the foyer (it also serve the possibility to keep a part of the building open at night and shutting other areas in it).

site plan 1:5000

A site plan of 1:5000 is necessary for assessment 2 as well as later on for assessment 3

Week 8 - Defining the Space within the Performing Art Building & Reflecting on the design

One of the important step before tackling the design of the building is first to define all the different space within the building.

- Performance Stage/Auditorium
- Rehearsal Room
- Dressing/Changing Room
- Foyer (with a Box Office in it)
- Loading Dock
- Sound control room
- lighting control room
- recording studio (not sure)
- green room
- Toilets Male/Female/Disabled (for public & staff)
- Security room
- First Aid room
- Restaurant
- Kitchen
- Bar
- VIP room
- parking spaces

One of the proposal I made in week 6 was about providing this raised platform of green turf for people to go sit and enjoy the views with having the building at the back embedded into the cliff. it seemed to be an interesting approach until further analysis of the element of the site and a better understanding of psychological human behaviors.

the site on itself is really noisy due to the constant traffic of the story bridge which after a few minute can become uncomfortable for some people (it does for me & other student I've asked), also the issue of public and semi-public spaces and views between the building and the green space at such close proximity will certainly impact on the decision not to engage with the green space. Knowing that a lot of my spaces will need natural lights as well as being opened to the views (such as the restaurant & bar), I am pretty sure people will not feel comfortable if exposed to them.

Having said that I do intend to keep some aspects of this idea. One of the adantages of having this raised platform was about maximising the views towards the city and East Brisbane which I do intend to take. The other benefit was about hiding existing car parks and use them because they are necessary for my design.
So as a matter of fact, I do intend to have a raised platform but just smaller and not offering spaces to sit and stay.

Week 7 - Defining the type of the building from inspirational exemplars

Oslo Opera House Norway - ErikBerg

Sydney Opera House

Tenerife Concert Hall

Three of the most inspirational buildings affecting my direction on the design. Also following the original function of the FOLIE DESIGN, my view on the type of building for Howard Wharves Smith is focused on a "Performing Art Centre".

I intend to have a a small-medium drama theater holding between 150-200 people for a show. At this point I'm also thinking of making it flexible to other uses such as small scale musical performance and/or conference.

The 3 pictures up there are really important in my take toward the design mainly because of their approach towards modern design and forms, in which I truly believe my building to reflecgt in order to contrast the messy industrial look of the story bridge but also because those buildings share up to a point the tectonics and colors I which my building to possess.

Week 6 - Proposed Ideas...

This is the first week that I started to tackle the design of this project.
Before working on the design of the building, I came up with this space which I considered to be
necessary through my site analysis.

Ground Floor

Upper Floor

The idea here was that the views of the site should not be blocked of by the 2 heritage sheds buildings as well as keeping what is there, the parkings.
I am offering this idea of a raised 'Green Space', for people to sit and enjoy the views, in front of my building which will be halfway through the cliff and also offering a barrier view to the cars park on site.

This is just an example of my idea so far, the shape and forms of the space is basic and not explored yet to further benefits of the overall design...
