Week 8 - Defining the Space within the Performing Art Building & Reflecting on the design

One of the important step before tackling the design of the building is first to define all the different space within the building.

- Performance Stage/Auditorium
- Rehearsal Room
- Dressing/Changing Room
- Foyer (with a Box Office in it)
- Loading Dock
- Sound control room
- lighting control room
- recording studio (not sure)
- green room
- Toilets Male/Female/Disabled (for public & staff)
- Security room
- First Aid room
- Restaurant
- Kitchen
- Bar
- VIP room
- parking spaces

One of the proposal I made in week 6 was about providing this raised platform of green turf for people to go sit and enjoy the views with having the building at the back embedded into the cliff. it seemed to be an interesting approach until further analysis of the element of the site and a better understanding of psychological human behaviors.

the site on itself is really noisy due to the constant traffic of the story bridge which after a few minute can become uncomfortable for some people (it does for me & other student I've asked), also the issue of public and semi-public spaces and views between the building and the green space at such close proximity will certainly impact on the decision not to engage with the green space. Knowing that a lot of my spaces will need natural lights as well as being opened to the views (such as the restaurant & bar), I am pretty sure people will not feel comfortable if exposed to them.

Having said that I do intend to keep some aspects of this idea. One of the adantages of having this raised platform was about maximising the views towards the city and East Brisbane which I do intend to take. The other benefit was about hiding existing car parks and use them because they are necessary for my design.
So as a matter of fact, I do intend to have a raised platform but just smaller and not offering spaces to sit and stay.
